The Jays have traded for Whit (just one t, and hopefully at least one hit) Merrifield.
Merrifield was hitting .240/.290/.352 with 6 home runs, 30 walks, 61 strikeouts and 15 steals.
He is playing mostly second base this year, but can play center and corner outfield spots. Must be taking Zimmer’s place.
I wonder if that means George Springer’s injury is more serious than we’ve been told. Springer is not playing today, and reporters said Otto Lopez is in Tampa.
Witt told reporters that since the Royals weren’t winning, he wasn’t going to get vaccinated, but he had to get it now or the Jays wouldn’t have traded him.
He is a similar player to Ian Happ, but is probably a bit better defensively in the outfield.
Samad Taylor and Max Castillo go to KC. I’m sorry to see Taylor go.
Also, Anthony Banda was DFAed today.
