RCMP: Missing British Columbia man last heard from in Manitoba

A British Columbia man traveling by car in Northern Ontario has been reported missing and was last known to be in Manitoba.

Keith Zajac, 55, was last heard from on July 31 after checking into the Super 8 Motel in Brandon.

“We’d all gather in Fort Frances to go fishing,” said Jeff Zajac, Keith’s brother, who lives in Peterborough.

According to Jeff, his brother mentioned that he wasn’t feeling very well before he left BC. The motel staff who had been in contact with his brother told Jeff that he seemed unwell to them as well.

“He’s not a big drinker, definitely not into drugs,” he says. “He’s always looked like a rough boy, but they said he looked like he’d just come out of everything and we need to find out why.” Is his blood sugar up? Is there a medical condition? That’s probably our biggest concern right now.”

Jeff says RCMP located his brother’s car on Grand Valley Road near the Trans-Canada Highway and currently have it in custody. His sister-in-law mentioned a possible carbon monoxide leak, which could also affect his health.

“The police will look into that now, they’re looking into it,” he says. “The car doesn’t look like it’s been tampered with at all, it’s just been abandoned.”

A search of the area where the car was found is currently underway with the assistance of the RCMP search and rescue team and the local fire department.

Keith Zajac is described as 5’10 and 175 pounds with short blonde and gray hair and facial hair. Anyone with information on Zajac’s whereabouts is asked to contact Brandon RCMP or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
