The general manager of a Texas barbecue restaurant says a thief stole nearly $3,000 worth of brisket on the morning of August 4th.
Allison Klemm, general manager of la Barbecue in Austin, Texas, said 20 briskets were stolen by someone who jumped a fence around 4 a.m. and ran toward the smoker, according to FOX 7.
Clem said he believes the thief planned the theft.
“We kind of speculate that he was watching. You know, someone who cooked for us probably. We haven’t had turnover in our house since we’ve been here, so it wouldn’t be relevant. So that’s also a little weird that he knew. Clem said.
She said the incident was caught on camera and lasted about 15 minutes.
“One of my strongest guys there can barely do 10 chest lifts in a box and [the thief] raised them above his head. So I really think it was planned. Clem said.
The cost of the meat, according to Clem, is $3,000, including spices and labor, she said.
Clem also said that while this is the seventh or eighth time the restaurant has been broken into, this is the first time the meat has been stolen.
“I can only speculate that he probably works for a food truck or restaurant. I don’t know, even throwing a party. I have no idea,” Clem said.
