A stray polar bear has been safely removed from Grates Cove Bay

A spotted polar bear roaming in and around Great Bay on the tip of the Bay of Verde was safely captured yesterday by conservationists and moved to a more remote location. Residents say the bear appears to have come ashore in the nearby Red Head Bay area.

It was a busy year to observe polar bears along the northeast coast from Black Tickle in Labrador to St. Anthony, Goose Cove, Fogo, Greenspond and the Avalon Peninsula.

People are reminded to give polar bears a lot of space, never crowd animals and stand against the wind. If you see a polar bear or animal signs in your area, contact the RCMP or the nearest wildlife office.
