Dozens of Montreal Police Department (SPVM) officers are in the city’s east end Friday morning as part of an operation related to a recent shooting.
“This operation is ongoing and is related to the firearm events that occurred in Riviere-des-Prairies,” confirmed Véronique Comtois, a spokeswoman for the Montreal police. “In order not to harm the operation, we will not release any more information.”
It comes after shots were fired just before midnight Thursday night on Morris-Duplessis Boulevard near 27th Avenue.
The police found an injured 25-year-old woman at the scene.
Police said four suspects, all men, fled in a car and were pursued by police. The suspects’ vehicle crashed on Broadway Ave. Two of the suspects were arrested immediately, police said, while the other two managed to escape. The suspects, who were arrested, are expected to be questioned by investigators later Friday.

Police say they are unsure of the whereabouts of one of the suspects, but believe the other is hiding in the area, prompting the ongoing police operation. They report that no one was injured in the crash, and a firearm was found at the crash site.
Comtois described the situation as dangerous, but clarified that there was no active shooter at the scene.

Manuel Couture, SPVM spokesman, said tactical teams from local and provincial police forces were searching for the suspect. A Sûreté du Québec (SQ) helicopter is also assisting in the operation.
“Our main belief is that this person is involved in a shooting, and we don’t want to risk the safety of the public and the safety of our police officers.” When we have information that a suspect may be armed in a perimeter, normal procedure is to conduct a large perimeter,” Couture said.
Police are asking the public to avoid a large commercial and industrial area in Montreal East, from Boulevard Henri-Bourassa to the north, the Metropolitan Expressway to the south, Broadway Street to the west and Marien Avenue to the east.
It is not known how long the area will remain off limits. The dog department is also on site.
