Gas prices will jump 12 cents per liter in Ottawa and eastern Ontario on Saturday

Gas prices could reach record highs in Ottawa this weekend as stations switch to summer gasoline.

Canadian President for Affordable Energy Dan McTieg says that after rising 11 cents on Wednesday, gas prices will rise another 12 cents per liter in Ottawa and eastern Ontario on Saturday.

Gas prices are expected to reach 185.9 cents per liter in Ottawa.

McTeague told CP24 in Toronto on Friday that the increase in gas prices this week is something he has never seen before.

“An increase of 23 cents per liter in the last 72 hours … This is unprecedented and does not bode well for the summer,” McTeague said.

Refineries are switching to more expensive summer gasoline in April, which is more expensive.

“In other words, the type of gasoline you receive tends to change from April 15 to September 15. It’s something that has existed for the last 30 years, “McTeague said.

The jump of 12 cents per liter follows an increase of six cents per liter on Thursday and five cents on Good Friday.

Regular gasoline sold for $ 1.73 per liter in Ottawa and Kingston on Friday.

In Kingston on Friday, the high price of gasoline did not prevent people from taking a trip over the Easter weekend.

“I pay extra, extra for gasoline. The weather is not fun, “said Colton Jung, filling the gas tank with Supreme Gas.

Jung says peak gas costs $ 2 a liter.

“Terrible! My pockets are much lighter. To pay twice as much as usual. I might throw that down the drain, “Jung said.

Other drivers say that although they are not happy with rising gasoline prices, they have no choice.

“It doesn’t matter, I guess you have to pay what you have to pay. There’s no way around it, “said a driver in Kingston.

“I gave up trying on a petrol budget,” said another driver.

As McTeague predicts that ordinary gas will reach 185.9 cents per liter on Saturday, gas prices will reach a new record in Ottawa.

Gas prices reached 185.8 cents per liter in Ottawa in early March, according to ottawagasprices.com.
