The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 stole the show at Unpacked 2022 (rightfully so, it looked gorgeous), but that wasn’t the only thing Samsung announced. There was another phone, plus three watches and a new set of headphones in the mix.
Samsung Galaxy Flip 4
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is the foldable phone for the mainstream. Its vertically foldable design transforms its 6.7-inch coaster-sized display, easily fitting into smaller pockets. This time, the hinge as well as the flexible glass have been improved to be more durable. Samsung says it can last up to 200,000 times.

Samsung displays are known for their quality and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is no exception, offering a 120Hz refresh rate for silky smooth animations and full DCI-P3 color gamut coverage. Up front is a 1.9-inch roof display with a 60Hz refresh rate and the same impressive colors as the main display.
The phone is made to be more durable overall. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 uses Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus+ and an aluminum frame to construct its body. It should also withstand rain with its IPX8 water resistance rating.
For performance, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 system-on-chip paired with 8GB of memory and up to 512GB of storage. The storage deserves special attention, as it has double the capacity of the previous generation.
This time, Samsung increased the battery capacity from 3300mAh to 3700mAh to mitigate the biggest flaw of the previous iteration – battery life. It’s a modest increase, but we’ll have to wait and see how it performs.
The cameras are a little less exciting. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 appears to have inherited the camera system from the previous generation, featuring a 12MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. There is also a selfie camera on the main display. This is not the under-display camera used in the Galaxy Z Fold 4; Instead, Samsung opted for the traditional pinhole camera.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is available for pre-order now from C$1,260 for the 8GB/128GB configuration. It is expected to ship on August 26.
Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro
Along with the phones, Samsung also launched the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro.
The Watch 5 comes in 44mm and 40mm dials, while the Watch 5 Pro only comes in 45mm, which is better suited to larger wrists.
As the higher end of the two, the Watch 5 Pro uses a premium titanium body with a sapphire crystal display. Samsung says the sapphire crystal display is 1.6 times stronger to withstand scratches and accidental bumps. The Watch 5 also uses a sapphire display, but comes with an aluminum body.
But the Watch 5 Pro’s biggest draw is its much larger 590mAh battery. The 40mm Watch 5 has a 284mAh battery and the even larger 44mm version has a 410mAh cell. However, all watches feature fast wireless charging, capable of reaching 45 percent capacity from zero in 30 minutes.
In addition to telling time, the Galaxy Watch 5 series tracks multiple metrics for more than 90 activities, including swimming, hiking, cycling, golf and yoga. The watch’s BioActive sensor has been improved to be closer to the skin for more accurate heart rate and health readings. In addition, the Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) sensor can track body fat, skeletal muscle, body water, and more.
In addition to fully customizable watch faces and wallpapers, the Galaxy Watch 5 series also comes with a range of colorful bands. The straps are easily interchangeable so you can color coordinate them to the days of the week.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 starts at C$350 for the Bluetooth version and C$420 for the LTE version. The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro starts at C$560 for the Bluetooth version and C$630 for the LTE version. All are available for pre-order now and will ship on August 26th.
Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro
Rounding out the lineup are the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, Samsung’s premium wireless earbuds. Each earcup features two-way speakers with a subwoofer and tweeter for a fuller sound range. Additionally, the updated 24-bit audio codec aims to provide higher audio fidelity.

The headphones themselves provide some degree of passive noise cancellation, but they also offer active noise cancellation for the loudest environments. Active noise cancellation will automatically turn off when the user starts talking. And to support remote meetings, each Galaxy Buds2 Pro carries three microphones with a high signal-to-noise ratio that eliminates outside sound.
The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro are available for pre-order now for C$290 and will ship on August 26.
