War in Ukraine: A nurse who lost her legs in a mine explosion shares her first dance with her husband at a hospital in Lviv | World news

A Ukrainian nurse who lost her legs in a mine explosion shared an emotional first dance with her husband after marrying in a hospital.

Victor, the groom, held his wife Oksana in his arms while they danced in the ward in the western city of Lviv.

The moment was captured by the camera of a volunteer at the hospital.

The 23-year-old nurse from the eastern city of Lisichansk lost her legs on March 27 while she and Victor were returning home “in a familiar way,” the Lviv Medical Union said.

She turned to warn her husband of the danger, seconds before it exploded beneath her.

He was not injured, but Oksana lost her leg and four fingers on her left hand.

“Life should not be postponed”

Oksana underwent four surgeries before being evacuated to the Dnieper, where her wounds healed and her limbs were prepared for prosthetics.

A week ago, the couple, who have two children, arrived in Lviv by evacuation train.

“Life should not be postponed,” decided Oksana and Victor, who for six years together never found time for marriage, “said the association.

They bought wedding rings in Lviv and found Oksana a white dress with a cake baked by volunteers. The wedding took place in the ward of the surgical center.

Oksana is now preparing to travel to Germany with her husband for further treatment, the organization told Sky News.

The couple is not the first couple to get married in the midst of the war.

In early March, a Ukrainian couple, who have been together for 22 years, decided to formalize their relationship by marrying on the defensive line near Kyiv.
