Liz Sheridan, a veteran theater and screen actress who played Jerry Seinfeld’s mother, Helen, in “Seinfeld”, died Friday morning, her manager and friend Amanda Handon confirmed to CNN.
Sheridan celebrated her 93rd birthday earlier this week, Hendon said. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law.
Although she had dozens of film credits, she was best known as Seinfeld’s favorite mother in his titular sitcom, which aired for nine seasons. She also appeared as the sniffed neighbor Mrs. Ochmonek in the alien-led sitcom “ALF”.
A trained dancer, Sheridan made her Broadway debut in 1971 in “Frank Merriwell” and appeared in several other productions, including the musical “Happy End” starring Meryl-Streep in 1977, until she focused mainly on film. and television from the 1980s onwards.
Sheridan was also an author, writing the autobiographical Dizzy and Jimmy about her relationship with the young, former James Dean star, when they were ambitious Broadway performers. At the time of her death, she was working to turn the book into a film, Hendon said.
Sheridan’s death comes within two weeks of the death of other Seinfeld cast member Estelle Harris, who plays George Constanza’s mother in the series.
