Homicide investigators say there is no indication a “suspicious death” in Surrey, British Columbia, this week is connected to the bloody gangland feud in the Lower Mainland.
The victim was found in critical condition at his home in the 18800 block of 76 Avenue around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday and later died of his injuries despite the efforts of first responders.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said it was called on to take over the case due to the “nature of the injuries”, but did not provide further details about how the man died or whether the incident appeared to be targeted.
Investigators have identified the victim as a 47-year-old man, but said they will not release his name until his family is notified.
“We’re still in the early stages of this investigation,” said Sgt. Timothy Pierotti said in a news release.
“Officers are working throughout the night to find witnesses who may be able to help solve this situation. The motive is unknown at this time.”
IHIT said it works in partnership with the Surrey RCMP, the BC Coroners Service and the RCMP’s Integrated Forensic Identification Unit.
Authorities asked any potential witnesses or anyone who drove in the area of the homicide between 9:00 PM and 12:00 AM and has dash cam video to contact IHIT at 1-877-5551-4448.
