HUSSON – Jurors have reached a verdict in the case of a man accused of killing 11-year-old Jose Flores. Andre Jackson was found guilty. The closing arguments ended around noon on Tuesday and took less than a few hours to return the sentence.
Flores was stabbed about 20 times with a pocketknife nearly six years ago on her way home from school.
Video and surveillance photos put Jackson on the same street where and when Flores was killed in May 2016.
Much of the case has focused on key evidence in the case, including new pieces of surveillance footage showing Flores at various times on the day of his murder, from leaving Marshall Middle School to walking down the street with a backpack.
Several other footage released to the jury during the trial shows Jackson putting on his jacket and looking at his hands, walking past a primary school and running down the street. The jacket Jackson wore, prosecutors said, was the same green jacket they said belonged to Jackson on the day of Flores’ murder, which contained his DNA.

At Jackson’s request, the judge, not the jury, will decide the sentence. It is unclear when this phase will begin. The defense has witnesses who want to bring it out of town. Jackson faces up to life in prison five years ago. The state insists on life.
