A man died in an A453 crash in Nottingham while an investigation was launched

Police have launched an investigation after a man died in an A453 crash in Nottingham. Traffic continues to increase to the M1 and A50 after the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday (May 4th).

Nottinghamshire police say an investigation is under way after two vehicles crashed on the A453 Remembrance Way, near Ratcliffe-on-Saar, around 4.48am. The traffic monitoring site Inrix reports that one vehicle was a motorcycle. The clash took place on Green Street in Clifton and West Lake Lane, in Ratcliffe, Saarland.

The A453 exit of the Mill Hill roundabout to Clifton South Tram Stop is expected to remain closed until at least the afternoon. Green Street next to Barton-in-Fabis is also closed.

The A453 is open to the north. However, police said traffic had stopped. Drivers heading south to the M1 turn onto Mill Hill. A warning has been issued to avoid the area.

Nottinghamshire Police Sergeant Steve Waft said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with this man’s family and friends at this sad time. Our investigation is still at an early stage and we are working hard to find out exactly what happened. We urge anyone who has witnessed the accident, or any drivers who may have recorded footage from the dashboard, to contact us. Anyone with any information is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, citing Incident No. 52 of 4 May 2022.

The typically congested southern lane was completely out of order after it closed early in the morning. One lane on the entrance route was also temporarily closed, but reopened in the middle of the morning.

From Clifton Village all the way through Ratcliffe-on-Saar and to the M1 and A50, you could see miles after miles of queues. Significant traffic delays, including buses, have been reported.

National Highways then said: “I recommended that the A453 in the south remain closed by Nottinghamshire police until the early afternoon to allow for an investigation into the collision after a serious collision.”
