(Pocket-lint) – Google may be about to release its next set of true wireless headphones in the form of Pixel Buds Pro.
Thanks to details coming from a few leaks, we could see Google’s audio offering expand soon – perhaps right after Google I / O.
Details about the headphones themselves are scarce, but Jon Prosser, who has given accurate information in the past, says they will appear soon and even provides the colors – Real Red, Carbon, Limoncello, Fog.
This would not surprise me at all, given Google’s work on support for spatial audio + head tracking in Android 13, especially their secrecy about the latter. In addition, BLE Audio is now supported on Android. https://t.co/yJHcKCF4dy

Nothing else is revealed, but Mishaal Rahman catches the rumor with a little more speculation, citing a support code found in Android 13.
Rahman regularly shares information about much of what’s happening in the new version of Android, and although findings in preliminary software don’t always come to market, they help build insight into Google’s future plans.
In this case, there is a reference to support for head tracking in Android 13, which suggests that Google may also launch a competitor to Apple’s spatial audio feature. This makes perfect sense, as Apple currently dominates this end of the market with AirPods and other devices in its ecosystem.
The last release of Google’s headphones was the Pixel Buds A-Series in June 2021, and in the background Google bought audio patents and talents – grabbed patents from Synaptics along with some employees, acquired a 3D audio launch called Dysonics, and grabbed RevX’s IP .
All this paints a picture for Google, which wants to have a greater impact on audio through its various devices and platforms. Pixel Buds Pro may reveal some of these plans – but we are still in the realm of rumors, so take everything with a pinch of salt.
