Several people were injured after a shooting in Scarborough at night, Toronto police said.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire while driving in a parking lot in the Markham Road and Lawrence Avenue East area around 1 a.m. Saturday.
Four men with gunshot wounds were found at the scene, police said.
Two of the victims were taken to a local hospital and the other two were transported to a trauma center.
A fifth male victim also arrived at the hospital, police said. All the victims were seriously injured, but without danger to life.
Police estimate all the victims are about 20 years old.
The suspects reportedly fled the scene in a blue car, but no further information was reported.
Const. David Hopkinson said he was fortunate that the brazen shooting did not have a worse result.
“We have and found bullet holes in other cars and in other areas around it. “If there were other people standing nearby, they could easily have been hit by stray bullets, and that could have ended very tragically,” he told CP24 on Saturday morning.
We are very lucky. I am lucky – we have five victims in hospital – but we are lucky that more people were not injured. “
