Shutdown: Thousands run out of power in eastern Ontario, western Quebec after a windy Friday

Hydro One reports dozens of outages in eastern Ontario on Saturday morning after a windy Friday.

Hydro One says strong winds are causing broken power lines, broken poles and fallen trees on power lines on Friday, and many customers were left without electricity overnight. As of 8 a.m. Saturday, there were approximately 17,500 Hydro One customers without power in eastern Ontario. By 10 a.m., that number had dropped to just over 10,000 customers in the region.

Expected recovery times vary, but most customers can expect power to be restored by Saturday night, according to the utility.

As of 7 a.m. Saturday, there was a break at Hydro Ottawa that affected 14 customers near Munster. At 8 o’clock in the morning the power supply in the area was restored.

Hydro Quebec reported just over 4,500 customers without electricity in the Outaouais region around 7 a.m. Saturday. At 10:30 a.m. there were 3,500.

The interruptions canceled some events in the region, including hockey games in the Eastern Ontario Youth Hockey League and the Central Canada Hockey League.

Due to a power outage in Perth, tonight the match was postponed to Saturday, April 16 in Perth, 19:30. Puck drop @PerthBlueWings against @ CPCTier2

If Game 7 is needed, it will take place on Sunday, April 17 at 3:30 a.m. at Carlton Place
