After a regular season of 82 games and a captivating, exciting game tournament, we are now ready to finally start the 2022 NBA Playoffs with as wide an open field as we have seen in recent memories. Although the NBA doesn’t often see very big upheavals in the first round, this year we have some intriguing games that could lead to some unexpected results.
The series that many will watch from start to finish is the Boston Celtics ‘No. 2 match and the Brooklyn Nets’ No. 7 in the Eastern Conference. The Nets were the favorites before the season to win the title, but suffered injuries, part-time players and an exchange in the middle of the season, which led them to a disappointing regular season. However, they showed their firepower in the victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving being anything but a normal seventh placed. The powerful duo, who face Boston’s best defense in the league, is guaranteed to be a real show.
In the West, the biggest intrigue comes from the match between No. 4 Dallas Mavericks and No. 5 Utah Jazz. Dallas will be without MVP candidate Luka Doncic at least in the first game of the series, which dramatically changes the chances in favor of Utah. Due to the frequency of Doncic’s use and responsibility for attack, the Mavericks appear less prepared than some teams to survive without their superstar.
As the playoffs are set to begin on Saturday, our CBS Sports experts from the NBA tried to predict each series of the first round.
