A mother of two in California, a “friend” of a pilot, died in a plane crash in the San Francisco Bay area

A mother of two high school students in California and her friend the pilot died on Friday in a plane crash near the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

The Marin County Sheriff said on Saturday that two of the people on board the plane had been positively identified, but their names would not be released until Monday morning pending notification to relatives. However, the Jesuit High School in Sacramento, a private Catholic high school, has already posted a statement on its website identifying the mother of one of her students as having died in the crash.

Jennifer “JJ” Fox, whose son is a sophomore at the school, and “her friend died in a plane crash on Friday afternoon,” according to a joint statement by President John P. McGarry and Principal Michael Wood.

Fox was also the aunt of five other students at the same school. Her daughter is a graduate of the nearby St. Francis High School.

An emergency beacon for a small plane was activated around 2:15 p.m. on Friday in Marin Headlands, according to the Golden Gate National Park Service. The crash site was found on a ridge north of Conzelman Road, away from roads and trails. The two participants in the accident were found dead. The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane crashed around 2:40 p.m.

Since then, the aircraft has been identified as the 2017 Vans Aircraft RV10.

KNTV reported that the four-seater low-wing metal plane took off from Sacramento Executive Airport and continued down through the delta over Skags Island. Flight trajectory data show that the plane began to descend rapidly, making circles over the bay. Conditions were foggy with low visibility.
