A man was found wounded on the Salter Bridge in critical condition: Winnipeg police

A man is in critical condition after police traveling on the Winnipeg North Bridge found him wounded Friday night.

A general patrol police unit crossing the Slaw Rebchuk Bridge on Salter Street at around 10:30 p.m. found the man near the sidewalk, the Winnipeg Police Department said in a press release on Saturday morning.

A spokesman for the Winnipeg Police Department. Jay Murray said on Saturday morning that he believed the man was found on the sidewalk near the bridge.

Officers provided emergency medical care to the injured man, who was taken to hospital in critical condition, the statement said.

Police closed the bridge by 10:44 p.m. on Friday and reopened all sidewalks except the east side by 6:20 a.m. Saturday, according to tweets from the Winnipeg Police Department account. Shortly after noon, police tweeted that the sidewalk was also reopened.

Anyone who traveled on the bridge before the incident and has video from a control camera or other information that may help is asked to contact the Major Crimes Investigation Department at 204-986-6219.
