Three teenagers in Des Moines, Iowa, were injured early Sunday morning after a shooting at a post-prom, police said.
The incident followed a brawl at a party attended by at least 200 people when a group of uninvited people arrived, according to local news station WHO13. A 17-year-old woman and two 18-year-old men have gunshot wounds. They have been taken to hospital and are expected to survive, the WHO said13. Police are investigating the shooting, but have not yet been arrested.
In a letter to his parents, the director of Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Stephen Chapo, reiterated that “we believe that none of the injuries are life-threatening.”
“Unfortunately, there was a shooting at a prom after a party last night that injured three Roosevelt students,” he said, according to WHO13, which published the letter on its website.

“Tomorrow, our advisers will be available throughout the day to support students who need to process the news … This is an evolving situation and I will keep the Roosevelt community informed of any additional information when it becomes available,” he added.
Newsweek contacted the Des Moines Police Department for comment.
In a separate incident last month, many people were shot dead in front of the Waffle House in Atlanta, Georgia. After a fight broke out in front of the restaurant, someone opened fire, hitting five teenagers. All the victims have non-life-threatening injuries and are in stable condition. However, two of the victims allegedly stole a car from a targeted valet to drive to a nearby hospital, the WGCL news station reported.
In Texas in March, at least three people were injured in a shooting during a spring beach vacation. At the time, law enforcement officials believed the shooting came after a fight on the beach. A 30-year-old man was left in critical condition after the accident, and two teenagers were seriously injured.
Also in March, four teenagers in Texas were shot dead outside of a birthday party. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said at the time that there was a fight in the parking lot when “many suspects started shooting at each other.” The sheriff said a 17-year-old man was taken to hospital after the shooting, where he was pronounced dead. At least one of the other three wounded was taken to hospital in critical condition.
