Apple announces updated iPad Pro with M2 chip

Apple has officially announced the next generation of iPad Pro, which includes Wi-Fi 6E support and is powered by the new M2 chip. The M2 was announced earlier this year and first debuted on the 2022 MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro refreshes.

Both the 12.9-inch and 11-inch iPad Pro models include a new “hold” feature that Apple claims will allow the Apple Pencil to be exposed up to 12mm above the display, allowing “users to see a preview at his sign before he did.”

The sixth-generation iPad Pro comes with iPadOS 16, the next major software update for Apple’s tablets, due for release on October 24. iPadOS 16 is geared toward multitasking and collaboration, will integrate new features into its office apps, and finally include a dedicated Time app. As Apple mentioned back at WWDC 2022 in June, iPadOS 16 will allow 12.9-inch iPad owners to take advantage of a new reference color mode for editing photos and videos.

A new feature called Stage Manager will allow iPads with the A12X Bionic chip and newer to display up to four apps at once in adjustable windows. However, iPadOS 16 beta testers criticized the feature for performance issues.

The sixth generation iPad Pro is available for pre-order today and will be available in stores on October 26. The 11-inch iPad Pro will start at $799, while the 12.9-inch model starts at $1,099.
