A 16-year-old boy who was hospitalized after a reported attack in front of a high school in Edmonton earlier this month has died.

Police said in a press release that the teenager died from his injuries on Friday and that their homicide unit had already launched an investigation.

Officers responded to the reported attack on April 8 at around 2:44 pm in front of McNally High School.

The life-threatening teenager was found and taken to hospital.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

Police said in a statement that a number of young suspects had been identified and more information would be available later.

“On behalf of the Edmonton Police Department, I would like to thank the community for helping us through this complex investigation,” said a homicide sergeant. Colin Leathom said in a statement.

“This tragedy has affected so many people, but this is not a time for anger or hatred – this is a time to grieve and heal as a community.

Police are asking anyone who has information that can help with the investigation to call them or Crime Stoppers.
