Norm MacDonald laughs for the last time after it was announced that the comedian had secretly made one last stand-up special film before his death.
MacDonald died last September at the age of 61. But the comedian filmed a private one-hour special stand, which was filmed in his living room. The special edition, entitled Norm Macdonald: Nothing Special, will premiere on Netflix on May 30.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, MacDonald went to the hospital in 2020 and was told the results were not good. And before he was set to go for the procedure, MacDonald set about filming a special. “He wanted to put this on tape just in case – as he put it – things went south,” McDonald’s longtime production partner Lori Joe Hoekstra told THR.
“His intention was to have something special to share if something happened.”
Norm MacDonald died after a nine-year battle with cancer, which he kept secret. “He never wanted the diagnosis to affect the way the audience or someone close to him saw him,” Hockstra said.
MacDonald has a rich comedy career, which includes a legendary change in Saturday Night Live, as well as several favorite special programs and sitcoms of ABC.
Known for witty wit and endurance, the literal last laugh for the special is the perfect sending of one of the best comics in history.
