A COVID-19 outbreak was announced last week at Kelowna General Hospital.

The outbreak was announced in the hospital’s rehabilitation ward last Tuesday, and as of Thursday, 20 cases of COVID-19 patients were linked to the outbreak.

Internal health no longer issues press releases when new outbreaks of COVID are announced, but the health authority’s website for epidemics is being updated.

An IH spokesman was unable to provide the latest number of outbreak cases as of Sunday, and he could not say how many of those 20 patients contracted the disease while in hospital.

It is also unclear whether there have been any deaths related to the outbreak.

As of Sunday, there are two other reported COVID outbreaks in the interior, at The Hamlets care homes in Westsyde and Overlander, both in Kamloops.

According to the control panel of COVID-19 of BC, as of Thursday, there are 80 people hospitalized with the virus in the interior, six of whom are in intensive care.
