A 46-year-old man has become the seventh victim of murder in Montreal in 2022 after he was shot just before 11pm on Saturday night, police said.
The shooting took place on the corner of Boulevard Saint Laurent. and Jean-Talon Street at 10:55 p.m., a police spokesman said.
The man’s death was later confirmed by doctors after he was taken to hospital.
There were “several witnesses” at the scene, on the corner, who usually sees a lot of traffic, and many different 911 calls were received. But police are still putting together what happened, a CTV News spokesman said.
“We don’t know the connection between the victim and the suspect,” she said. “Was there a conflict? We don’t know.”
Officers are questioning witnesses and should have more details later today, she said shortly after 7 p.m.
At 11:30 a.m., spokesman Marian Aller Moren said police were now searching for a number of suspects, but had not yet provided a description to avoid a possible failure of the investigation.
“We’re not just talking about one suspect,” she said.
There are about two dozen witnesses, so it takes time to talk to all of them, she said.
The victim was known to the police.
This is an evolving story that will be updated.
