Marcus Rashford, who is England’s top scorer at the World Cup, is in line to start on the bench again, while Raheem Sterling, who only joined the squad on Friday, will also be on the bench.
Southgate revealed he knew his squad and formation for the France game from Monday, saying: “We decided on Monday. We had already watched all the France games until Monday night, we had already reviewed our Senegal game. So we’re very clear on the right track because then you have to deliver it during the week. We feel comfortable where we are.”
On his system, Southgate added: “How does the team develop over a period of time? In Russia, it was the right way to bring out the best players we had at the time. I think we’re constantly trying to develop that and I think we did that during this tournament as well.
“I know people think I have a preference for a certain system, but if anything, my preference has always been 4-3-3, but I don’t think it’s always been appropriate to play and get the best out of the team. “
