Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said it was hard for him to believe in the credibility of “some countries or some leaders” following the escalation of the war in his country.

CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Zelensky in an exclusive interview if he found statements when world leaders used the term “never again”, a slogan associated with the Holocaust and often pronounced after crimes against humanity, “hollow” now.

“You lost ancestors in the Holocaust. Every year on Holocaust Remembrance Day, politicians issue statements that say, never again, never again. These statements should seem really hollow at the moment. When the world never says again, do they ever mean it? ”Tapper asked.

Zelenski replied: “I do not believe in the world. After seeing what is happening in Ukraine, we – I mean, do not believe this feeling, that we should trust – some countries or some leaders. We do not believe the words. After the escalation of Russia, we do not trust our neighbors. We don’t believe in all this. ”

The Ukrainian president went on to say he did not even believe in documented guarantees of security and international law as the war in Ukraine raged and Russia was accused of alleged war crimes.

“Even I don’t believe in documents, because we also have the Budapest Memorandum – I think you know all the details about that. For me, it’s just a piece of paper and it costs nothing, “Zelenski said

Zelensky told CNN that his faith and faith are based on practical, tangible efforts and the Ukrainian people.

“We just believe in agreed, pragmatic things. If you are our friends or partners, give us weapons, give us a hand, give us support, give us money and stop Russia, kick Russia. You can do it if you are a friend. “If you think about this democracy and everything only for this moment, because we have the same thoughts, if we talk about freedom, not because we want to have a dialogue about freedom,” he said.

Zelenski continued: “The only faith is faith in ourselves, in our people, faith in our armed forces and faith that the countries will support us not only with their words but also with their actions. And that’s all. Never again… Indeed, everyone is talking about it and yet, as you can see, not everyone has the courage. “
