A wildfire near Upper Muscuodoboit, NS, has risen from 20 to 52 hectares since Friday, but is not expected to spread beyond the established limits given current conditions, according to David Steeves, a spokesman for the Natural Resources Department.
As the terrain in the area is quite rough, it makes it difficult for firefighters to make their way around the perimeter, he said on Saturday.

Steve said there were about 15 employees at the site’s Chaplin, NS department, with three regional fire and emergency tankers from Halifax and another from Stewiake.
Meanwhile, a 3,200-hectare fire near Lake Horschu in Yarmouth County has been completely contained, Stevees said.
“That doesn’t necessarily mean they have a hose all the way around it,” he said. “But the fire has moved to areas with unfavorable fuels or has encountered roads or high-altitude areas – something that hinders the movement of this fire.”

Steve said crews were combing the area for problems in the blaze.

It is important that people adhere to the incineration ban throughout the province, Stevees said.
