PITTSBURG – Rookie Hunter Green brought without a striker in the eighth inning, but still ended up in the wrong end in the loss of the Reds with 1-0 by the Pirates on Sunday.
While throwing 118 pitches – the most in the Majers this season – Green runs 7 1/3 innings with five walks and nine outs. With one out in the eighth inning, the 22-year-old began walking next to each other as he showed signs of fatigue. Relief Art Warren took over and after making his first battery, Ben Gamel, challenged what should be a double game at the end of the inning.
On Ke’Brian Hayes’ ground to second base, Alejo Lopez tossed the ball into his glove and managed to score just one during the game when Rodolfo Castro scored the only game of the game.
Green was the first Reds rookie to take without a striker in seven innings after Travis Wood put on a perfect game in the ninth before giving up a goal in Philadelphia on July 10, 2010. Cincinnati lost in 11 innings 1-0, according to time of this game.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, a striker must have at least nine innings to be official.
