Amber Heard will return to Johnny Depp’s defamation court

Depp accused Hurd of slandering him in a 2018 post for the Washington Post. In an article published about two years after their divorce, Hurd described himself as “a public figure representing domestic violence.” Although Depp is not mentioned in the article, he claims that it costs him lucrative acting roles.

Depp spent four days at the exam last month, giving his own testimony, which includes a cross-examination.

Depp’s team closed the case on May 3. Hurd began his testimony on May 4. She is likely to conclude her live testimony on Monday, followed by a cross-examination by Depp’s lawyer.

“The only thing we suspect Depp’s lawyers will avoid is the central question of this process: does Amber or a woman have the right to free speech in the First Amendment,” a Hurd spokesman said in an email to CNN on Monday.

Depp and Hurd last appeared in court on May 5, before the proceedings were suspended for a pre-scheduled break.

Judge Penny Azkarate said before the break that final speeches were expected on May 27, followed by a jury discussion.
