Northern Ireland: Farm under fire from Tory MPs over plans to repeal protocol | News

Liz Trus was attacked by senior Tory MPs as she promised to introduce a law that would repeal key elements of the government’s controversial Brexit deal within weeks.

The foreign minister told the House of Commons today that while she would prefer an agreement through negotiations with the European Union, “severe” protocol restrictions and the bloc’s refusal to make concessions give ministers no choice but to act unilaterally.

She insisted that the move was in line with international law and was the best chance for the government to regain power-sharing in Northern Ireland.

However, Truss was attacked by Simon Hoare, the conservative chairman of the Northern Ireland Committee, who used Margaret Thatcher’s words to suggest that the plan was against the law.
