A large fire in a new subdivision in south Barrhaven is under control, fire officials said Thursday morning.
A home under construction on Surface Lane caught fire and spread to another home under construction, Ottawa Fire Services said on Twitter. They later said about five units were affected.

Viewer video from the scene shows smoke and flames coming from the home.
Additional video from the Ottawa Fire Department shows two propane tanks at the scene being cooled by firefighters as their safety valves were released.
The fire was brought under control just after 10:10 a.m. Thursday. Fire officials said about 15 homes were saved by the quick emergency response.
The new development is just east of Highway 416, south of Cambrian Road.
