Good start from Manoah, Jays Beat A’s

3 Blue Jays on A 4

Another great start from Alec Manoa. It’s fun to watch (I guess every pitcher is fun to watch when they go great). Today he made 6 innings, allowed 4 goals, 2 walks, 2 wins, with 6 outs. He gave up Stephen Vogt’s home run and hit a battery, but was largely in control during his 6 innings.

We couldn’t score more than one run and inning in an attack and that hurts. We should have had more runs. We entered:

1 in the first: Springer made a mistake at Sheldon Neuse and went third in Bo Bichette’s single (get a hustle from Springer) and a Lourdes Gurriel sac fly brought Springer home.

1 in the second: Zack Collins took the lead with a doubling (Collins was a good pickup so far) and Santiago Espinal took him home. We had to score more. Kirk left and Cavan replaced him at first in a force-out, but Springer out, and home game referee Shane Livingston announced the theft of Biggio with the intervention of the cat. It was a strange call, as Vogt didn’t throw to the second (he didn’t want the third runner to score). It was weird. I thought that in the worst case, Bijo would be sent back to first base, but he was not so lucky.

1 in the third: With two outs, Gurriel doubled and Matt Chapman took him home.

1 in the fifth: Gurriel started the inning with a single. Chapman hit the ball to the short, but Kevin Smith threw it madly for a second and Guriel scored.

This was to be noted. We had 7 hits and 5 walks, but lately there has been a shortage of electricity. more runs would be nice.

At the bottom of the eighth, with Springer on the plate, Santiago Espinal was caught stealing second, ending the inning. I’m not a big fan of stealing from someone who can kill him.

The holster did the job. It would have been easier if we had scored more:

  • Tim Mayza got four outs without allowing a base runner. He had 2 outs.
  • Adam Simber, who came in with one out, had more problems, giving up 2 shots and running.
  • Jordan Romano got ninth, got number 6 for the save (in the victory of Jace number 6). A big victory would be good, maybe give Romano a break.

Jace of the day: Chapman (.172 WPA), Manoa (.135), Maisa (.108) and Romano (.163).

Suction: Vlad (-.099, for 0 for 4 with 3 strikes). In the beginning Vlad is either amazing or goes 0 for.

Jace has a break tomorrow and then leaves for Boston for three games against the Red Sox. Kevin Gaussman rises again in the match first. I think Bo and Lourdes deserve an honorable mention.

Jace is 6-4 after 10 games. They may not shoot at all cylinders, but they are still in first place in the AL East.

There is some news from Jace:

  • Hyun Jin Ryu is placed on IL with forearm pain. Ryan Boruki takes his place on the list.
  • And Buck Martinez has played his last game in the cabin for now. He said he had cancer and said he was treatable, but would be far from the team to receive treatment. I can only wish him the best and fastest recovery.
