According to the agreements, American football will become “the first federation in the world to equal the FIFA World Cup awards” awarded to teams for participation in the World Cup.
“This is a truly historic moment,” US Football President Cindy Parlow Cone said in a statement Wednesday. “These agreements have changed the game forever here in the United States and have the potential to change the game around the world.”
Coon added: “US Soccer and USWNT and USMNT players have reestablished their relationship with these new agreements and are leading us to an incredibly exciting new phase of mutual growth and cooperation as we continue our mission to become the most important sport in the United States.”
As part of the agreement, US Soccer will share part of its “broadcasting, partnership and sponsorship revenue with a 50/50 share of that share divided equally between USWNT and USMNT.”
“They said equal pay for men and women was not possible, but that didn’t stop us, and we kept going and we did,” said Walker Zimmerman, a member of the UNSSTPA leadership group.
“We hope that this will awaken others to the need for this type of change and inspire FIFA and others around the world to move in the same direction,” Zimmerman added.
The deal also covers other areas such as childcare, parental leave, short-term disability, mental health impairment, travel and the same quality of playgrounds.
“We hope that this agreement and its historic achievements not only in ensuring equal pay but also in improving the training and playing environment for national team players will similarly serve as a basis for the continued growth of women’s football as in the United States. , and abroad, “said USWNT player and USWNTPA President Becky Sauerbrunn.
Actress Jessica Chastain wrote on Twitter “Oooooo!” after the announcement was public, reflecting the mood of many on social media.
