12-year-old girl taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car

A young girl was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car on a main road.

Emergency services were called around 8:25 a.m. Wednesday at the corner of Smithdown Road and Langton Road in Wavertree for crash signals involving a 12-year-old girl and a car. Police and an ambulance were at the scene right in front of Toxteth Park Cemetery.

The girl received serious injuries, but is stable in hospital, police said. When ECHO visited the scene this morning, there were four police cars and an ambulance.

The traffic was also stopped for a short time and the cars were returning to the city center. Employees initially closed Smithdown Road completely while attending the scene before simply closing one lane.

Police said a silver Renault Laguna stopped at the scene and is cooperating in the investigation. Roads have been open since then and an investigation is under way.
