The suspect in Thursday’s pepper spray incident in Orchard Park is on the run from police.
Police responded to the incident at the mall at 3:30 p.m. Thursday after receiving a report that someone had sprayed pepper spray in the area of the eatery.
“We are extremely concerned by this unacceptable behavior that puts several innocent members of the public at risk,” said Const. Mike Della-Paolera, spokesperson for the Kelowna RCMP.
Witnesses told RCMP that a young man used bear spray on another young man at the diner and then fled on foot.
Multiple officers responded along with the RCMP Police Dog Service, but the suspect was able to escape.
The victim told RCMP he was familiar with the attacker, but then refused to give a statement to police. The victim was released to his parent after being treated by BC EMS and is expected to make a full recovery.
“Our investigators will continue to collect all evidence and will file charges when the suspect’s identity is confirmed,” said Const. Della-Paolera.
Bear spray was dumped in the same breakfast yard on Boxing Day.
