Search warrant unsealed in Idaho, suspected student murder case

CNN —

A Washington court has unsealed search warrant documents used to seize evidence from the home and office of Brian Koberger, the 28-year-old accused of killing four University of Idaho students in November, according to documents published by Law & Crime on Wednesday.

“These warrants and related filings were sealed due to the sensitive nature of the investigation at the time. An extensive affidavit of probable cause has since been unsealed in Latta County, Idaho, alleviating the need to seal the return here in Washington, D.C.,” court documents state.

Kohberger faces four counts of first-degree murder in the fatal stabbings of Kaylee Goncalves, 21; Madison Mogen, 21; Xana Kernodle, 20; and Ethan Chapin, 20.

The suspect was a student in Washington State University’s Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology and lived in Pullman, Washington, at the time of his arrest last month.

Items recovered from his residence included a “collection of dark red,” clippings from a pillow with reddish-brown stains, and part of a stained mattress cover.

Other items listed include a black nitrate-type glove, store receipts and a Dickies tag, several strands of hair, vacuum dust, a Fire TV stick and a computer tower, among other things.

No mention of potential items recovered from the suspect’s office. It is not yet clear if anything was recovered or if the information surrounding the execution of this search warrant is still under seal.
