A Vernon man has avoided prison on sexual assault charges by entering into a peaceful relationship.

Eldon Robert Caldwell agreed Monday to abide by the peace agreement for one year, confirmed Dan McLaughlin, communications counsel for the British Columbia Prosecutor’s Office.

A peace bond is another term for a restraining order.

Caldwell was charged in the attack last June.

In August, RCMP arrested him a day after issuing a public appeal for information on his whereabouts.

Caldwell has a lengthy criminal record dating back more than a decade.

Charges include impersonation to evade arrest, escape from arrest, assault, obstructing a peace officer, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, breaking and entering, uttering threats and violating conditions.
