Omid Scobie, journalist and co-author of the unauthorized biography of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, said the public was already suffering from “Sussex fatigue” and was in danger of losing its most loyal supporters.
Scobie’s remarks came as a surprise to many royal fans and pundits, who see him as a friend of Meghan and Harry and often criticize him for taking sides in the row between the royal family and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Speaking on the Royally Obsessed podcast, he said: “In many ways, how can an ordinary person not have Sussex fatigue at this point? I almost feel it’s my duty to follow him every step of the way, but I can understand how general audience members are sick of hearing about royal dramas in general.
Scobie said: “In a way I sympathize with Sussex because they are only now joining the story at this very late stage.”
He added: “For many years they could not share their country. They watched others try to tell versions of it, or they sat and watched things reported about them that they didn’t agree with or didn’t think were an honest representation of themselves.”
The journalist said: “So now they’ve come forward with their versions of events, with their stories, and they’re filling in the gaps that we didn’t know about. But of course this comes after years and years of coverage. So I think people are getting a little tired of the story in general.”
