Port Hope police have confirmed that the woman found dead on May 19 was 29-year-old Madison Maddie Chard, who was previously reported missing on April 19.
“Once the family has been notified, the Port Hope Police Department can now confirm that Madison Chard was dead in a wooded area in Port Hope yesterday (May 19),” the service said on May 20.
“The circumstances surrounding her death are now being investigated with the help of Ontario police,” police said, adding that anyone with information about their ongoing investigation is being called to contact police.
Earlier, on May 20, Mark Chard, Madison’s father, wrote on Facebook that the family had stopped searching for his daughter after 31 long days.
“Day 31: Please download all the posters of our beautiful Madison,” Mark wrote on Facebook early on the morning of May 20. “She is at peace with the angels.
“I thank everyone who tried to help in this very broken world. Let our family grieve and if you have any information, contact the police so that our daughter can rest in peace. ”
On May 19, exactly a month after Madison was reported missing, Port Hope police issued a brief statement saying police were investigating after a dead woman was found earlier in the day. Police cordoned off the Caroline Street area near the river during the investigation. OPPs were called immediately to help with the investigation, police said.
According to Port Hope police, Chard was last seen leaving her residence in Port Hope on April 19.
Port Hope police, family and others have issued several calls for help over the past month – posting missing posters and online calls for help – as they continue to search for Madison and urge anyone with information about her whereabouts to come out.
Earlier this week, on May 18, police made another call for help, saying they feared she could be a victim of human trafficking – again, urging anyone with information about her whereabouts to contact her. There is no confirmation of this.
Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact Port Hope Police at 1-905-885-8123 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
This history will be updated as more information becomes available. These were the last details available in the press deadline.
