“We have this monkeypox in large numbers in the past. We have vaccines to take care of it,” Biden said during a visit to Tokyo.
“I just don’t think it’s rising to the level of anxiety that existed with Covid-19.
On Sunday, Biden said everyone should be concerned about the spread of monkeypox.
“They haven’t told me the level of exposure yet, but it’s something everyone should be worried about,” he told CNN.

Monkeypox in the United States
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is currently tracking the latest groups of monkeypox infections and other possible cases in the United States.
On Friday, she said she was monitoring six people in the United States for possible monkeypox infections after sitting near an infected passenger who had symptoms during a flight from Nigeria to the United Kingdom in early May.
Separately, CDC officials are also investigating a case of monkeypox confirmed in a man in Massachusetts who recently traveled to Canada. And in New York, a patient tested positive for orthopoxvirus, the family of viruses to which monkeypox belongs, New York City health officials said.
The initial symptoms of monkeypox are usually flu-like, such as fever, chills, exhaustion, headaches and muscle weakness, followed by swollen lymph nodes that help the body fight infections and diseases.
This is followed by a widespread rash on the face and body, including inside the mouth and on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet.
Painful, raised patterns are pearly and full of fluid, often surrounded by red circles. Finally, the lesions form and resolve within two to three weeks.
The spread of the monkeypox virus requires close contact with an infected individual, experts say.
The infection can develop after exposure to “broken skin, mucous membranes, respiratory droplets, infected body fluids or even contact with contaminated underwear,” said Neil Maboth, a personal chair in immunopathology at the University of Edinburgh’s School of Veterinary Medicine in Scotland.
CNN previously reported that CDC officials were assessing whether a smallpox vaccine should be offered to healthcare professionals treating monkey measles patients and others who may be at “high risk” of exposure to the disease.
The smallpox virus, which causes smallpox, and the monkeypox virus are related. Both are members of the genus Orthopoxvirus, belonging to the scientific family of measles viruses. Some of the vaccines used to prevent smallpox have also been shown to prevent monkeypox.
