ISIL calls on jihadists to strike Europe and Israel while the West is distracted by Ukraine | world

The Islamic State terrorist network has announced a new “global offensive” against Europe and Israel in retaliation for the death of its leader in a US Special Forces operation earlier this year.

In a statement on the holy month of Ramadan, the group told jihadist supporters to take advantage of the West’s distraction with the war in Ukraine to stage terrorist attacks while “crusaders fight each other.”

In a long speech online, Abu Omar al-Muhajir, the new ISIL spokesman, said Russia’s invasion was an “opportunity” for the group, as non-Muslim nations are “busy” with the conflict.

He also urged militants to avenge the death of the group’s leader, Abu Ibrahim al-Qurayshi, who was killed in February.
