DALASUS – Golden State’s Splash Brothers tried not to get wet at the start of the second half on Tuesday night when water leaked through the roof of the American Airlines Center, delaying game 4 of the Western Conference finals between the Warriors and Mavericks by 16 minutes.
The teams had to endure a rare delay in basketball rain after halftime as arena workers tried to close a leak coming from the rain outside in the high ceiling.
This was the second time water dripping through the roof of the American Airlines Center affected a Mavericks game. It also delayed the start of the Timberwolves-Mavericks game by 15 minutes on March 21.
The arena opened on July 17, 2001.
The Mavericks took a 62-47 lead at halftime. During the delay, players from both teams stood near half the field and looked up at the ceiling, with several Warriors players playing on stone, paper, scissors to spend time. As the leak dripped on the main line near the Warriors bench, the Mavericks were the team that started the third quarter, playing on this side of the court.
After the game resumed, the Mavericks continued to build on their lead, jumping to a 99-70 lead by the end of the third quarter.
