Wales will repeal the final remaining laws for Covid from Monday

Prime Minister Mark Drakeford is expected to announce on Friday the removal of the final remaining rules for Covid in Wales. Although almost all restrictions were lifted in March this year, the decision to lift the mandatory wearing of face masks in healthcare facilities on Monday will mean that, for the first time since March 2020, Wales will be completely free of coronavirus regulations.

The outcome of the latest three-week review of the legal provisions will be announced by Mr Drakeford at a press conference on Friday afternoon. He is expected to confirm that the latest legal requirement that face coverings remain a mandatory requirement in healthcare facilities and care facilities for the protection of patients, staff and visitors will be removed on 30 May.

Understandably, the Welsh Government will continue to encourage people to take simple steps to protect their health, including keeping up with Covid vaccinations (see the latest on who will be eligible for injections in the autumn, such as go here) and isolate yourself if they have symptoms of Covid-19. The legal requirement for self-isolation for positive cases was removed earlier this year.

The decision to remove the restrictions comes in the light of improving the picture in terms of data on the infected. The number of Covid-19 hospitalized patients is gradually declining, although the NHS continues to face pressure from emergencies and pandemics, while the latest figures from the National Statistics Office (ONS) show that the number of people infected in Wales is declining by a fifth. another week.
