- On Friday, Quebec reported 1,288 people in hospital (down 27 from the previous day), including 36 in intensive care (down seven from the previous day).
- The province reported 590 new COVID-19 cases and 10 deaths.
- Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 1,064,331 confirmed cases and 15,400 people have died.
- The province also reported 4,039 health workers absent for COVID-related reasons.
- 91 per cent of the eligible population in the province (aged five and over) received at least one dose of the vaccine; 55% received a third dose and 14% received a fourth dose.
* The new cases are those reported only to the Quebec government. They are considered to be underrepresented in the spread of the virus, given the limited availability of PCR tests and the use of home test kits.
* The Quebec Ministry of Health no longer reports data on COVID-19 over the weekend.
The COVID-19 pandemic is not expected to be discussed at the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) congress this weekend.
The party will gather in Drummondville for two days before the provincial elections this fall. However, there is no resolution in the timetable on the government’s response to COVID-19, the continuing pressure on the health network or the care of the elderly in the province.
More than 15,000 people have died since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of them elderly in long-term care homes in the province.
The congress will be the last big rally of Prime Minister Francois Lego’s party before the provincial elections this fall.

Three doses of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine offer strong protection for children under five, the company said this week.
Children under the age of five are the only group not yet eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine in Quebec. Health Canada has not yet approved COVID-19 mRNA vaccines for children in this age group.
Pfizer told CBC News on Monday morning that they were in talks with Health Canada about a vaccine for children under five, but could not comment on the deadlines.
Moderna has previously confirmed that it is also working on presenting Health Canada with a COVID-19 vaccine for children under six.
