Blue Jays 4 Angels 3
My first game on Apple TV + and there were good and bad. I liked the purity of the video. I liked the noise in the field.
I hated the comment. They didn’t seem to know anything about the Blue Jays. I talked about Kirk’s speed (speed doesn’t slow down), he talked too much about Star Wars. The woman on the side talked too much about my taste.
And they missed the action on the field. Jace’s first run scored while they showed a set. And they talked to people dressed in Star Wars outfits while the game went on instead of showing the play.
The game?
Hell of a good game.
Alec Manoah was good, maybe as great as all season, but good. He gave up several solo homers (Jared Walsh and Tyler Wade caught him deep). And he was hurt by some poor defense. Raimel Tapai managed to overcome it by giving the runner an extra base and setting up the Angels’ first run.
Manoah made 6, allowed 7 shots, 3 runs, 2 wins, 0 walks and 9 outs.
A nice play by Bo Bischet also helped him. In the fifth inning, with Mike Trout in third, Walsh split one against Bo. Bo rushed home and Trout barely got out. Called safe on the field, the replay showed that he was out with the smallest possible difference. I was surprised that they canceled the invitation for such a close game.
Offensive? Well, we’ve done enough. Barely enough, but enough.
We had 11 hits, 3 extra hits (all double). We entered:
- 1 in the second: Bo started the inning with a double in principle in the right corner of the field. Theoscar Hernandez beat a single in the field. And Bo scored on Alejandro Kirks’ double play. Not that we have to see him or anything like that.
- 1 in the fifth: This time Kirk started with a doubling. Tapia brought him to third place. And Lourdes doubled Kirk’s household (doubling Kirk from third is about as good a description of Kirk’s speed as you’ll ever get). Something like a miracle happened in this inning. We had two hits with RISP. With that, the fun is over. With runners in second and third place. Cavan (not Kevin, as the announcer called him) lined up (bad luck for Cavan, he hit well), George Springer jumped out and Santiago Espinal out.
- 1 in the seventh: Danny Jansen (pinch), there was one single. Bradley Zimmer with tongs (as it turned out to be a good move). Gurriel arranged a single on the left, Zimmer next. Matt Chapman (also a pinch) received a single in the second baseman’s field and Zimmer did not return until the second. He has incredible speed. Unfortunately, Springer hit and Espinal hit softly out.
- 1 in the ninth: Kirk had a single in the box (leading the commentator to tell us that speed never slows down). Zimmer put on a nice bag (but with all that speed, it didn’t have to be that good in the beginning). And Gurriel scored on the right, a ball that bounced past right-hander Juan Lagares and Kirk scored. Again, that would be all we would get. Chapman struck, and Springer dropped out.
Lourdes had 3 goals (can we hope that he will come out of his decline?). Kirk had 2 hits. All others had 1 stroke, except the 3rd at the top of the order. Springer, Espinal (he did a very good game on third base) and Guerrero made 0 for 11, with 3 outs and 2 walks.
Our bullpen did a great job.
- Yimi Garcia did a clean inning.
- Trevor Richards’ clean inning included two outs. He gets his second victory.
- Jordan Romano made his 15th save. He hit the country in the ninth, receiving striker Shohei Ohtani for the last time in the game. I thought it was nice that Angels fans chanted MVP for Romano during the bat.
Jace of the day: Garyel (.573 WPA), Chapman (.172), Romano (.187), Chapman (.172) and Richards (.102). Tapia came close (.090), but this error cost him JoD.
Suckage: Top of the order, Springer (-.259), Espinal (-.251) and Vlad (-.159). Manoa also had the number (-.119), but I don’t think that’s fair.
Tomorrow night Jace achieves the fourth consecutive victory. Yusei Kikuchi (2-1, 3.47) against Michael Lorenzen (5-2, 3.05). The start is at 10:00 east.
It should be noted that Lourdes was annoyed, but all we got was that he was making his way into a double. I was hoping for more.
