A father and son were playing at Cedarhill Golf and Country Club when they were injured by a falling tree. Owen was treated at CHEO and later released. Robert was rushed to the Ottawa Hospital’s city campus, but died Wednesday.
Friend Steve Hamre, who has known Haiami since they were both in first grade, said on Saturday that Haiami’s passions include golf, music, food and hockey, and he had the gift of living life to the fullest.
“He entered every room with open arms and his laughter was contagious,” Hamre said.
The 49-year-old Khayami played both guitar and piano, but is best known for leading songs. Hamre recalls that Khayami played guitar on the porch of a house on Fourth Avenue in Gleb when they were roommates. The songs of Neil Young and Bob Dylan were among his favorites.

While Khayami was in the hospital last week, friends gathered in the parking lot with their guitars, saddened that Khayami would not be there to lead them in a song. In a Facebook post, friend Jack Pelletier recalled that Khayami will always sing first. “And his voice was softly reassuring, never tense. He was never ashamed to sing. It was a gift he had that he naturally shared. “
Born in Montreal, Haiami grew up in Orleans, where he attended Cairine Wilson High School. Pelletier said the 10th grade meeting with Khayyam was a “gift.”
He was the Dude, the first friend I made on the first day of school. He was just a cool, cool cat. We were welcomed for days in Cairine Wilson, which was essentially a wonderful community of friends, “wrote Peletier, who added that Hayami has always been a center for communities of people.

“Rob and I spent countless moments together, just hanging out and singing, free, for fun until the sun rose, for the joy of music and just going out,” Peletier writes.
Khayami studied business at the University of Ottawa before moving to Amsterdam for his final year of high school and later working in a series of high-tech jobs. But he also had a lifelong passion to acquire new skills, including cooking at a chef’s level for friends.
Owen is also developing a talent for music, and Khayami was happy to connect with his son on the golf course, Hamre said.
Haiami is also survived by his wife Christine McGillivray, parents Hiroshi and Jane and brothers Jeff and Stephen.
Meanwhile, a GoFundMe fundraising campaign for the daughters of another storm victim exceeded its $ 10,000 target.
