The transit supervisor’s car was stolen after a suspect tried to take control of a MiWay bus in Mississauga: police

One man is facing charges after a passenger allegedly tried to take control of a MiWay bus in Mississauga and then fled in a surveillance vehicle.

Peel Regional Police was called to the Burnhamthorpe Road West and Erindale Station Road areas around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

According to police, a man approached a driver in the area and began damaging their car. The suspect then boarded a transit bus and tried to take control of it, police said.

The driver managed to stop the bus and call the police. But when a transit supervisor arrived at the scene, the suspect got off the bus and stole their vehicle, the city said.

“The operator managed to stop the bus safely and Peel’s regional police were called,” a Mississauga spokesman said in an email to CP24. “When the MiWay Supervisor arrived on the scene to help, the person who had tried to gain control of the bus moments before got off the bus and set off in the MiWay Supervisor vehicle.”

The suspect fled the area and damaged several stairs, police told CP24. However, there were no casualties and no collisions with other vehicles.

Transit control supervisors were able to track the vehicle’s location with the help of GPS and police caught up with it a little later.

Officers have arrested the suspect and he now faces several charges, including theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation and mischief of more than $ 5,000.
