The Coast Guard was searching for a swimmer who disappeared under the waves off Wildwood Beach on Tuesday night.
Three others were rescued earlier from the ocean near Andrews Avenue Beach, but their condition was unknown, Coast Guard officer Cynthia Oldham told NJ Advance Media. The Coast Guard was called in to help after a fourth swimmer, an unidentified man, resurfaced.
A rescue boat and helicopter crew are still on the scene in search of the fourth man, and by 8pm, Coast Guard officials are still deciding whether to continue the search tonight or resume it in the morning, she said. A call was expected shortly after sunset.
