President Biden will address the nation on the mass shootings and his push for gun control legislation, the White House said Thursday.
Biden’s address Thursday night will focus on “the recent tragic massacres and the need for Congress to act to pass common sense laws to combat the epidemic of gun violence that takes lives every day,” according to the White House.
Biden’s address comes as Congress debates the Child Protection Act, a comprehensive gun control law that Democrats say is common sense, while Republicans say it’s unconstitutional.

Renewal of gun control legislation comes after a couple of mass shootings have killed 31 people in recent weeks. Ten Americans were killed in a racially motivated mass shooting in New York in early April, and 19 children and two teachers were killed at a primary school in Uvlade, Texas last week.
Biden is expected to address the Republicans during his address. However, he dismissed some Republicans as unreasonable. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is among the “reasonable,” Biden said.

“As a nation, we must ask ourselves, when, in the name of God, will we stand up to the lobby with weapons?” When, for God’s sake, will we do what we know in our gut, what needs to be done? ”Biden said last week.
“We have to act. Don’t tell me we can’t influence this carnage,” he added.
