A man found dead this morning was injured and went into hiding after a deadly home invasion late Monday in Fulton, friends and family of the victims say.
Police on Tuesday morning found a male body near the previous crime scene in block 300 on West Ninth Street in Fulton, but did not give details about how he got there or how the man died.
According to the Fulton Police Department, officers responded to block 300 on West Ninth Street shortly before 9pm for reports of gunfire.
When they arrived on the scene, police found two men with gunshot wounds. One of them, 58, died at a hospital in Colombia. The other victim, a 33-year-old man, was shot in the leg. He was taken to hospital in a private car.
“This type of event here in Fulton is rare, it’s an unusual incident,” Fulton Police Chief Bill Ladwig said Tuesday morning.
According to a press release, someone broke into a house on the street and attacked a woman before shooting the two men. The FPD did not disclose the names of the victims.

But friends and family of the 33-year-old man who was injured in the incident, who asked not to be identified by name, say the second body belonged to the intruder. The intruder was wounded and hid under the deck before crawling out and dying at some point, they said.
Another witness said after the attacker entered the house and allegedly beat a woman with a pipe and a pistol. The woman’s son, a 33-year-old man, was called in to defend his mother. When the son arrived, he was shot and wounded. A witness said the murdered 58-year-old man was a friend of the family, but was later shot and wounded.
Witnesses say the murdered 58-year-old man is a family friend and was shot dead in an attempt to save both victims.
Fulton police did not release any suspicious information. Fulton Police Chief Bill Ludwig said by telephone that the department believes someone in the community knows something about the incident and hopes to get out.
Police say up-to-date information on the investigation is unlikely to come until tomorrow.
